WOCAT SLM Practice Documentation and Mapping Tools

WOCAT (The World Overview of Conservation Approaches and Technologies) has developed standard questionnaires to document SLM technologies, approaches and mapping (QM):

WOCAT Questionnaire on Technology (QT): https://www.wocat.net/library/media/15/

The QT helps to describe and understand the land management practice: the technology specifications, inputs and costs, where is it used (natural and human environment), and impact.

WOCAT Questionnaire on Approach (QA): https://www.wocat.net/library/media/16/

The QA describes how the SLM practice was implemented including capacity building, decision-making, technical and material support, change of legal framework, policies and stakeholders who were involved and their roles.

WOCAT Questionnaire on Mapping (QM): https://wocat.net/library/media/18/

The QM or mapping tool evaluates what type of land degradation is actually happening where and why and what is done about it in terms of SLM in the form of a questionnaire completed in an expert assessment. Linking the information obtained through the questionnaire to a Geographical Information System (GIS) permits the production of maps as well as area calculations on various aspects of land degradation and SLM. The map database and mapped outputs provide a powerful tool to obtain an overview of land degradation and SLM in a landscape, country, a region, or world-wide.
